Childminders (3 positions)

Reporting to the Company Manager and working closely with the Stage Management teams, you will supervise minor children that have been contracted to perform onstage roles. Childminders are expected to attend all rehearsals as required, and all performances of the productions for which they are contracted.

Past experience working as a Childminder is preferred but not expected. Qualified applicants will be required to produce a clear current criminal reference check, for the vulnerable sector, as part of the recruitment process.

1st  contract – March 26-September 20, 2014 – King John – 1 Childminder

2nd contract – March 11-October 11, 2014 – A Midsummer Night’s Dream  – 2 Childminders

You must have the ability to work flexible hours during the week and weekends which includes daytime and evenings and some holidays. There is the possibility of a show extension up to three (3) weeks. You are required to fulfill the entire contract period.

Food Prep/Customer Service – Food and Beverage department

Reporting to the Greenroom Chef, this casual position is responsible for providing both superior customer service in the Greenroom and assistance to the Greenroom staff with the daily food preparation and clean-up. Applicants must be flexible, have the ability to juggle multiple tasks, manage their time effectively and genuinely enjoy the service aspect of this position. Previous experience in a fast-paced food service or retail environment is an asset. Past experience with a POS system is preferred. Applicants must be able to create and support a positive environment and remain calm and patient during busy service times.

This seasonal casual position will start immediately and end October 12th. Successful candidates must be able to fulfill the entire contract period. The successful candidate must be available to work days and evenings during both weekdays and weekends.

Props Builder – Production department

As a Props Builder you should have a broad range of props construction experience in a professional theatre environment. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in both sculpture and carving skills. You should be organized, have the ability to pay great attention to detail and possess effective time management skills. Examples of your ability to troubleshoot and work well under pressure will be required.

As a Props Builder you will be expected to interact with other production staff, designers, and craftspeople, therefore good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment  is essential. This position can be physically strenuous and require some heavy lifting.

Applicants must have a post-secondary education in Fine Arts or Theatre Production.

A portfolio demonstrating skills and a list of three professional references is required.

This is a one season contract position. Position will be begin January 13, 2014 and end May 9, 2014 with a possible extension.

 Assistant Buyer-Wardrobe department (maternity leave)

This contract position is responsible for assisting with the inventory and purchase of all notions, Health and Safety/personal protective equipment and maintenance supplies. You will be expected to establish and maintain excellent relations with wholesalers and retail suppliers while maintaining current information in both a computerized and manual environment. This will include some travel both locally and in the Toronto area on a regular basis. You will also act as a liaison between several departments within the organization including conveying the needs of our theatres’ designers and wardrobe artisans to our many suppliers.

You must have good working knowledge of the computer programs Word & Excel and a strong ability to research items and suppliers on the internet. It is extremely important that you are able to multi-task several demands at one time in an efficient and timely fashion while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written are considered essential. It will be necessary for you to be in possession of a valid Ontario Drivers’ License and will be required to use your own vehicle.

This is a temporary seasonal position located in Stratford beginning January 20, 2014 and ending July 11, 2014.

Retail Manager

 Reporting to the Director of Audience Development, your primary responsibility will be to manage the Stratford Festival’s retail operations, ensuring that the Theatre Store operations are profitable, effectively operated, and support the overall brand and mandate of the Stratford Festival.

You will oversee the design of all customized product, the purchasing of all retail offerings and determine the store layout and in-store displays. You will direct and oversee the Festival’s online Theatre Store determining the product mix and implementing improvements that are in line with the best practices for online retail. Where applicable, you will negotiate and manage royalty agreements for production-specific merchandise.

Operationally, you will prepare and manage the annual budget for the Theatre Store, ensuring that both revenue targets and expenses are met, and adjusting forecasts as appropriate.  You will establish internal policies and procedures and will work closely with the Finance department to implement purchasing and inventory controls.  You will analyze sales trends and respond by managing pricing and promotions, and through visual merchandising.

You will hire and manage all seasonal sales associates, operational staff, and lead hands.  One of your key responsibilities will be to motivate staff to reach sales targets through staff meetings, promotions, and incentive programs.  You will also ensure that extraordinary customer service is delivered to Stratford Festival patrons through all retail channels.

You will bring post-secondary education in retail management or business with 5 or more years of related experience.  You must demonstrate strong retail sales skills, proven experience in managing and motivating staff, a track-record of using creative ideas to reach sales targets, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work as part of a larger team.

This is a full-time position located in Stratford, ON.

Marketing Coordinator

You will be responsible for coordinating and implementing marketing initiatives in support of direct marketing, advertising and promotional programs.

You will be expected to work with marketing managers to implement marketing plans aimed at building patron loyalty and increasing ticket sales.  Activities will include writing promotional copy; liaising with external organizations on promotional relationships; selecting prospects from the Festival’s database & compiling targeted lists; setting up and deploying email; coordinating mailings; planning and implementing promotional events and preparing flyers, posters and inserts in coordination with our graphic design studio.

Experience using a customer relationship database and e-mail system (ie Tessitura and mail2) is a mandatory qualification. You must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical skills, and a proven marketing background. The ability to manage multiple projects is important. A creative flare along with a passion for the arts is necessary.

This is a one year contract which reports to the Associate Director of Marketing.

Director of Audience Development

We are currently seeking a dynamic leader with exceptional management and organizational skills who will take overall responsibility for building audience loyalty and ensuring an extraordinary experience for our 500,000 visitors each year. You will liaise with the Director of Marketing and Digital Media on the annual direct marketing plan and develop and introduce services designed to increase audience loyalty.  You will oversee the Box Office, Front of House, Food & Beverage and Theatre Store operations, and ensure that revenue targets are met in these areas. You will lead a team of front-line managers to help deliver a customer experience that exceeds patron expectations.

You must possess strong communication and leadership skills and be able to motivate the Festival’s 250 customer-facing employees. Your experience and training in customer service excellence and customer loyalty is essential to your success in this position. A background in Marketing, Communications or Customer Loyalty is required.

Communications Coordinator

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Coordinator will primarily be responsible for writing and editing copy for various departments and individuals within the Festival.

The Festival is seeking a communications professional to:

  • Serve as principal writer and editor of the monthly e-newsletter, SceneNotes, and to contribute articles to the twice-yearly Members’ newsletter, Fanfares.
  • Write and edit sales and fundraising copy for the Marketing and Advancement departments, including direct mail brochures and email campaigns. Also write and edit copy as required for the Festival’s website and social media platforms.
  • Write applications for grants from government and other funding bodies.
  • Compose speaking notes for Festival personnel.

The successful candidate will possess superior writing and editing skills together with experience in and/or enthusiasm for writing for the theatre sector. He or she will need to become thoroughly familiar with the Festival’s activities and be able to interact effectively with artists, staff and other Festival employees. Strong interviewing skills are required, along with an aptitude for teamwork, creative thinking and juggling multiple priorities. The ideal candidate will have completed post-secondary education in communications, journalism or a related field. Short-listed candidates will be required to produce samples of their professional writing and may be asked to tackle a small assignment as evidence of their skills.

The starting date for the position is September 3, 2013.

Audience Development Seasonal Part Time Staff (up to 25 hrs per week)

As one of the primary points of contact for our patrons, you’ll play an essential role in establishing and developing the relationship between the Stratford Festival and its patrons. Using strong sales experience you will promote customer loyalty and confidence. In an inbound capacity, you will facilitate and encourage the sale of tickets, including cross selling and upselling, accommodations, membership and related items. The primary function in your outbound capacity is soliciting for the sale of tickets or membership, cross selling and upselling and selling related items over the phone and/or in person at our theatres. In both inbound and outbound areas your strong sales skills are supported by service that is efficient, enthusiastic and professional.

Successful candidates will possess superior telephone communication, sales skills, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Applicants should also have strong keyboarding skills.  Previous work experience in sales and service is strongly recommended. A passion for theatre is a distinct advantage.
