What’s new at the Festival for our 2013 season?

by Lisa Middleton

We have a few really exciting initiatives that we’re launching during our 2013 season: 2-for-1 Tuesdays, our pre-season price promise, the Stratford Direct bus, and The Forum! Here’s a bit more information about these programs.

2-for-1 Tuesdays
We’re taking a hint from the movies and launching an amazing 2-for-1 Tuesday deal. On Tuesday evenings during our 2013 season (excluding opening nights), for every full-priced ticket you purchase, you’ll receive a second ticket free! Now, you might be wondering, does this apply to plays and musicals? The answer is, YES! If it’s on a Tuesday evening, you and a date can enjoy a night at the theatre for half the price.

Pre-Season Promise*
We wanted to make it easier to plan your trip to the Festival, so we’ve introduced our Pre-Season Promise: When you book before January 31, you’ll not only enjoy the best regular prices of the season (up to 25% lower than in-season rates), but also be assured that if you need to exchange your tickets at any point, we’ll give you the same rate you paid earlier in the year. All we ask is that you exchange for the same performance type and seating zone as those of your original order.

The Stratford Direct bus!
Our Toronto patrons will get to enjoy easier and cheaper transportation to Stratford during the 2013 season. We’ll be running a twice-daily private bus service from Toronto to Stratford for only $20 return – that’s less than the average cab ride! Join us for one day, or stay for a few days and then return to the city after an extended visit. From May 27 to September 29, on performance days only, buses will leave Toronto at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and depart Stratford at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. From May 1 to 25 and October 1 to 20, there will be one return trip daily, on performance days only, with buses leaving Toronto at 10 a.m. and departing Stratford at 5 p.m.

Here are a few more details:

  • Buses will depart from Toronto’s InterContinental Toronto Centre hotel, at the corner of Front and Simcoe streets, with easy access to Union Station.
  • Service will be direct from Toronto to Stratford, with no stops.
  • Service is available for both matinée and evening performances.
  • You can incorporate overnight stays or can conveniently return the same afternoon or evening.
  • Bus reservations, tickets and overnight accommodation can all be booked together through our box office or website.

The Forum
The Forum is a new initiative launched by our newly appointed Artistic Director, Antoni Cimolino. It offers a wide-ranging series of events that invite audiences to enjoy theatre in a deeper and more dynamic way, using the work they see on stage to spark ideas, raise questions and open the door to good-hearted and open-minded debate.

Encompassing panels, chats, debates and other interactive discussions, as well as keynote speakers, dramatic readings, concerts and other presentations, The Forum will be offered continuously throughout the season, with each month from June through September featuring a supercharged “Forum Foray” week that will have a particularly high concentration of events.

We want Stratford to be not only a place for you to see amazing theatre, but also a place where your life can be enriched by thought-provoking discussions and exploration.

Keep watching as we announce more details about The Forum – including special guest speakers and events – over the coming months!

What are you most looking forward to in our 2013 season?

*Tickets must be exchanged for the same performance type (e.g. M1, P3) and seating zone (e.g. A+, B) to be eligible for the Pre-Season Promise. Exchange policies apply.

  1. Having visited for the last dozen years, I’m excited by the changes and very much looking forward to the 2013 season–I think it’s an amazing playbill!

But I am concerned because I have yet to receive a 2013 calendar and as a Playwright Circle Member I can begin ordering tickets on November 11–just 9 days away! Can anyone tell me when I should expect to get my calendar? Or is it different this year and we’ll be able to access it online early?

  2. I didn’t want to be the first to respond again.

What are we looking forward to the most? 1) Tommy (personal reasons for my kids & I, but we don’t like The WHO, sorry) 2) Having my Cordelia meet a former Cordelia (Martha Henry) 3) Othello 4) Muskateers 5) Blithe Spirit…AND, the Forums sound incredible! I think I will be using my vacation days sparsely through the summer so the kids and I can attend as many as we can!

  3. Having looked at the link, I MUST attend this now, too. Bravo, Stratford, for including this. I will publicize this at work on my reserve – and twitter, and my blog lol

Shawn A-in-chut Atleo: First Nations and the Future of Canadian Citizenship Saturday, August 10, at 10 a.m. Introduced by John Ralston Saul. $20

  4. As a B&B owner here in Stratford, many guests have used the train service from Chicago, Detroit/Port Huron and Toronto. This bus service from Toronto is a great 1st step due to the lack of service on rail. I hope it may expand to other cities, or some private bus operators take up the baton. The pre-season promise, another winner & bright idea-ensures your very loyal patrons get bang for their buck without having to worry about last minute changes of planning. Good insurance indeed. 61st season looks great, can’t wait!
